En su acervo, cercano a los 50 mil t\u00edtulos que abarcan desde las primeras manifestaciones del cine mexicano hasta tiempos actuales, se incluyen no pocos documentales que han podido ser rescatados y preservados, y que dan cuenta de los derroteros por los que ha transitado nuestra cinematograf\u00eda a lo largo de m\u00e1s de cien a\u00f1os. Su relaci\u00f3n con este g\u00e9nero no s\u00f3lo termina aqu\u00ed: tambi\u00e9n incluye el apoyo para su realizaci\u00f3n por parte de las nuevas generaciones de documentalistas y el reconocimiento a sus creaciones, como una manera de impulsar al g\u00e9nero. De hecho, en nuestro pa\u00eds, la Filmoteca, en colaboraci\u00f3n con el Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematogr\u00e1ficos (CUEC), fue la primera en concebir, organizar y llevar a cabo un premio dedicado exclusivamente al documental: el Premio Rovirosa.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" style=\"background-color: white; line-height: 20.8266677856445px; margin-bottom: 1.35em; text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"ES\" style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 22.7199993133545px;\">Fue en julio de 1997,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 22.7199993133545px;\">poco despu\u00e9s de la muerte del cineasta Jos\u00e9 Rovirosa, que la Direcci\u00f3n General de Actividades Cinematogr\u00e1ficas de la UNAM y el Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematogr\u00e1ficos instauraron el&nbsp;<i style=\"line-height: 22.7199993133545px;\">Premio Jos\u00e9 Rovirosa<\/i>&nbsp;<i style=\"line-height: 22.7199993133545px;\">al Mejor Documental Mexicano.<\/i>&nbsp;Se pretend\u00eda homenajear la personalidad f\u00edlmica y docente de este destacado documentalista mexicano, y reconocer la labor de quienes han intentado trabajar el campo del documental en nuestro pa\u00eds.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" style=\"background-color: white; line-height: 20.8266677856445px; margin-bottom: 1.35em; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 22.7199993133545px;\">Despu\u00e9s de 18 ediciones, el Premio Rovirosa se ha consolidado como el certamen m\u00e1s reconocido por los propios documentalistas si bien, afortunadamente, ya existen otras convocatorias. Algunos de los galardonados obtuvieron el premio con \u00f3peras primas o bien con obras que podr\u00edan considerarse como trabajos de un periodo inicial.
